Birth Year Support

While our focus is a preventative, low intervention approach, all basic standard procedures and screening tests are available with Wide Circles midwifery care. A nurse midwife's scope of practice includes the use of many medications that may be indicated in pregnancy, birth, or the postpartum; these include medicines used during emergency situations as well as common prescriptions.

Prenatal

  • Free 30 minute consultations for potential clients

  • Comprehensive, holistic, relationship-based prenatal visits monthly until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, and weekly from 36 weeks until your birth, with extra visits as necessary

  • Nutritional and herbal guidance for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery

  • referrals and allopathic remedies as needed

  • Standard of care and as needed lab testing always available (labs billed to and typically covered by insurance)

  • Ultrasound referrals/orders (typically covered by insurance)

  • Midwives available by phone, text, and e-mail for questions and concerns, including 24/7 for urgent needs

  • Postpartum transition planning

    Labor & Birth

  • Homebirth, including water birth from 37-42 weeks of pregnancy

  • Continuous care and support during active labor, birth, and the first hours after birth

  • Qualified, trained assistant during birth

  • Medications and equipment present at every birth for dealing with postpartum hemorrhage, neonatal resuscitation, and perineal repair

    Postpartum

  • Complete physical exam of the newborn*

  • Lactation support through 6 weeks

  • Postpartum education for the new family

  • Regular postpartum visits at 1 day, 3 days (lactation focused), 2 weeks, and 6 weeks postpartum with extra visits always available as needed

  • Lactation focused postpartum visit with an experienced certified lactation consultant/CBS in the first week (day 3-4)

  • Pulse-oximetry congenital heart defect (CCHD) screening and newborn metabolic screening available at 24 hour postpartum visit

  • Availability to clients by phone, text, and e-mail for questions and concerns, including 24/7 for urgent needs

    *Although we are trained and nationally certified to provide care for newborns, our scope of practice in the state of Ohio does not recognize this fact. Because of this, we must advise that you have a visit with a provider of your choice for your baby within 72 hours of birth and can recommend some providers who offer newborn home visits even sooner.

Lactation Support

90-120 minute lactation support visits with a certified lactation specialist.

  • Complete feeding assessment

  • Assistance with latch/attachment and treatment of sore/cracked nipples

  • Pre and post-feed weights

  • Assessment of your milk supply and tools to modify it when needed

  • Assessment of baby's milk transfer and tools to improve it when needed

  • Treatment of infections such as mastitis and thrush, including prescriptions as needed

  • Follow-up by phone, email, and text

  • Referral for evaluation of oral ties as needed

Fertility & Conception Support

Fertility visits are for anyone wanting to explore fertility through careful cycle tracking and symptothermal (watching for your body’s natural signs of fertility) methods. We also provide in home or in office intrauterine insemination (IUI) services with frozen donor sperm. IUI services always begin with an initial fertility visit.

Initial Fertility Visit

  • Comprehensive health history including nutrition and lifestyle assessment

  • Review of cycle charts or we can get you started with charting

  • Order and draw labs if desired and/or review labs from another provider

  • Create a fertility enhancement and pregnancy preparation plan

  • Submit a release form to your sperm bank (if utilizing)

  • Complete consent forms for IUI services (if utilizing)

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

  • In-home or in office IUI utilizing the midwifery model of care

Holistic Well Body Care

Whether you’re planning a pregnancy, planning to avoid one, or pregnancy is nowhere on your radar, Wide Circles provides holistic reproductive and primary healthcare from puberty through menopause with a focus on hormonal health and using a root cause approach. At your 1 hour visit we will review your health history, discuss your personal short and long-term fertility and wellness goals, and establish an individualized plan that includes appropriate labs and referrals.

  • Annual exams, including Pap testing and clinical breast exams

  • Referrals for breast and colon cancer screenings

  • Contraceptive counseling, including prescriptions for various options, IUD insertions, and education about Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) and Natural Family Planning (NFP)

  • Preconception care

  • Testing and treatment for vaginal imbalances and infections

  • Lab work as indicated (billed to insurance)
